Freewheeler is the brand name of the hotel voucher scheme operated by Choice Hotels International. In North America there are over 1500 participating properties ranging from Econo Lodges, Friendship Inns, Rodeway Inns at the budget or economy level, through medium priced Sleep Inns, Quality Inns and Suites to the top of the range Clarion Hotels and Resorts. æSpend a night not a fortuneÆ is the watchword of the group and, for convenience, all the properties participating in the Freewheeler programme have been grouped into five different voucher price levels.

Once in North America, the system remains flexible to your wishes by offering upgrades as you tour. Using the toll-free reservation number supplied a booking can be confirmed in the chosen hotel and the supplement payable is approximately the dollar difference at local exchange rates between the grades listed below. No refund is payable if you choose to pay a lower grade hotel with a higher grade voucher. And finally it should be noted that due to currency fluctuations and seasonal promotions the rates quoted cannot always be guaranteed to be the lowest on a year-round basis.

æGO AS YOU PLEASEÆ Hotel pass is the simple and flexible voucher scheme operated by Days Inn of America. Concentrating on the value-conscious traveller, the chain offers over 500 participating hotels and motor inns, most with swimming pools , many offering free continental breakfast, on key sites in city centres, airports, resorts and highways and byways throughout the USA and Canada. For ease of booking, all properties have been allocated to one of four colour coded categories based on location and facilities available.

Upgrades en route in North America present no problem. Simply book via the toll free telephone number in the directory and pay the hotelier directly the rate the difference in dollars between the voucher presented and the grade received. Details are printed in the directory and on the voucher. Refunds may not be claimed for downgrading in colour category, eg redeeming a blue voucher in a red property. The lowest rates cannot be guaranteed all year due to currency fluctuations and seasonal hotel promotions.

Guest International Inc. markets and operates the Canada Hotel Pass in Canada. Although the system has no formal system of classification, some 200 properties of two to four star grade, as it is generally understood, have elected to participate and well-known brand names like Ramada, Slumber Lodge, Venture Inns, KeddyÆs Hotels and Inns, Travelodge, Coastal Inns and Best Western are listed in the directory together with their facilities and precise location. Standards do vary, therefore, although the price paid is the same.
Offering value for money rates and providing a pre-pay facility in sterling, the Canada pass is the easiest to operate of all. Properties listed in the directory have all been classified either as æRedÆ or æWhiteÆ.

If you choose not to pre-book any of the hotels listed by name in this brochure, then voucher purchase is straightforward. Either purchase a red voucher for every night in Canada or a mixture of the two if pre-planning your itinerary in fine detail. Note that en route upgrades are readily available via the toll-free reservations number supplied. And the fixed upgrade charge of 40 Canadian dollars plus GST pr room per night is payable direct to the hotel in local currency.
Our final advice concerns the necessity to pre-book accommodation. While the flexibility and convenience of open-dated one night voucher s may be attractive, demand frequently exceeds supply. You are therefore highly recommended to pre-book because availability at these special rates can be limited, especially at weekends in high season.
